RHS Lecture at Burncoose House, Burncoose Nurseries

April 27 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

Enkianthus are one of the key features of Burncoose Nurseries’ Chelsea Flower Show stand, and also a little known/appreciated genus of shrubs/small trees. The lecture and tour of Burncoose Gardens will include a preview of plants going to Chelsea in our Show Tunnel. It will demonstrate some ‘tricks of the trade’ to ensure that plants flower on time for the show and how preparations for showing at Chelsea are made.

The highlights will include Enkianthus campanulatus ‘Venus’, ‘Victoria’ and ‘Vesta’ as well as the rare E. deflexus and E. hirtinervus. Also tips on the cultivation, care and propagation of enkianthus.

The talk and lunch will take place at Burncoose House, situated in the grounds of the Nurseries. Following lunch there will be a tour of the Burncoose Garden and Nurseries.

Following lunch there will be a tour of Burncoose Garden and Nurseries. Whilst most of the tour is accessible, some of areas may not be suitable for disabled access.

RHS Lecture

June 14 @ 9:30 am - 1:00 pm

After the spectacular spring floral displays there is a temptation to assume that there is ‘nothing much’ to see in Cornish woodland gardens in summer. The
styrax family extends the flowering season.

Caerhays now has a collection of nearly 30 species/cultivars of styrax, flowering June. Some are very new to UK cultivation.

The talk will examine the origins/history of the Caerhays collection as well
as advise on care/propagation. The garden tour will visit each species
growing/flowering in the garden including rare Styrax odoratissimus and Styrax serrulatus. Attendees will be invited to return in the autumn to collect their own seeds.

It is a beautiful quiet setting with a stunning walled garden area. I am looking forward to going back for a longer walk around.
